Changes

Well, I’m no longer working for myself. In March, I joined the YMCA of Marquette County (click here). It is a chance to join an organization that is doing some very good things in the local community. Primary change is that my massage practice has been moved there. They are also interested in starting a kayaking program. That is exciting as Marquette really needs a kid kayaking program.

So what does this mean? Well for my lifestyle of kayak instruction, paddle trips and working at Bay Cliff, nothing is going to change. Yes, hard to believe but that was the main reason I was self employed. I didn’t think any workplace would accept what that means, but the local Y does. Before I was hired I said I will be gone this summer for 6-7 weeks starting in late june, that’s fine,’we’ll make that work’. Working at Bay Cliff is not a problem, ‘let us know the dates you’re going to be there’.

What does it mean for SKS? Time will tell. Nancy and I both support this as the Y supports what SKS does. SKS will always be here and it appears that over time and as the Y kayak program builds, more classes will be offered at the Y than at SKS.

In the end though, it still boils down to the same thing. Nancy and I are sea kayakers who happen to have a work problem. :)
